Viettel Global, the international subsidiary of Vietnamese telecoms company Viettel Group, is planning to expand its footprint to Indonesia and Nigeria, as it continues to seek new investment opportunities in overseas markets. Vietnam Economic Times reports that Viettel Global targets revenue of over USD1.3 billion in 2017, up from USD1.0 billion last year, when turnover was hit by exchange rate fluctuations in Mozambique and Burundi. The firm signed up 7.4 million new subscribers during 2016, ending that year with a customer base of 90 million across its ten markets of operation (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Haiti, Peru, Mozambique, Cameroon, Burundi and Tanzania), while earlier this year it was formally awarded a licence to operate in Myanmar as part of a joint venture with two other local companies.
