Multinational mobile network operators Bharti Airtel, MTN Group and Vodacom (itself part of Vodafone Group) are all considering placing bids for a telecoms licence in Angola when the country’s plans for attracting fresh competition are enacted, sources told TMT Finance. Angolan trade minister Rosa Pacavira has said the government would issue new licences covering mobile and fixed telephony networks later this year for existing operators and at least one newcomer including a third mobile licensee. The unnamed sources were quoted as saying that MTN, Airtel and Vodacom were ‘cautiously’ watching the investment opportunities in Angola.
