CEC Liquid Telecom has announced the launch of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in Zambia, with the newly introduced product offering downlink speeds of up to 100Mbps. In a press release confirming the development, the operator noted that its ‘Fibroniks’ branded service is initially available to around 8,000 homes and businesses in the capital Lusaka, including the areas of Rhodes Park, Northmead, Long Acres, Sunningdale and Kabulonga; it is being sold to end-users through those internet service providers (ISPs) which are authorised CEC Liquid Telecom resellers.
During 2015 CEC Liquid Telecom has said it plans to invest around USD15 million in the FTTH rollout, and it expects the infrastructure to cover some 20,000 premises in Lusaka by the end of the year. Services will reportedly become available as each targeted area is connected, while further expansion to Copperbelt towns has been mooted to take place before end-2015.
