Telkom South Africa’s wholesale division has announced a 63% price reduction on its IP Connect (IPC) product offering with the new price to take effect from 1 May 2015. From that date, wholesale customers will also see tariff reductions of up to 10% on the wholesale fibre broadband access product range, prices of the Saix products will be readjusted by up to 25%, while metro Ethernet products – by up to 40%. Telkom’s managing director of wholesale services Prenesh Padayachee said: ‘Telkom has chosen a clear path to democratise data access to all South Africans. We believe that these major price adjustments and our renewed focus on value will go far in serving our customers, the industry and, ultimately, socioeconomic development of South Africa.’
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, the company reduced its IPC tariffs by 15% in February 2014, following the conversion of a 5% ‘free’ IPC bandwidth allowance that was offered by Telkom’s wholesale division on a temporary basis from 1 October 2013 into a permanent price reduction. The company said at the time that the new pricing would further assist and enable internet service providers (ISPs) to grow fixed broadband service offerings in the country.
