New fibre-to-the-home operator Octotel is planning to offer fibre broadband services in various Cape Town neighbourhoods.
The company was started by a team of telecommunication industry veterans with a passion for “building exciting, fast-growing companies”.
They raised funding for the company from a group of private individuals based in Cape Town.
Octotel is rolling out its fibre network in partnership with the community and local Internet service providers, using an open-access business model.
Octotel managing director Joe Botha told MyBroadband they’ve already started to build their fibre network in Sea Point and Bantry Bay, and are looking to include surrounding areas.
Apart from Sea Point and Bantry Bay, Octotel is planning to cover Mouille Point, Three Anchor Bay, Green Point, and Fresnaye.
Octotel is using DFA’s infrastructure to carry traffic to the vendor-neutral Teraco data centre in Newlands, where it will connect to ISPs.
Botha said they are in discussions with four well-known ISPs regarding offering services using the Octotel fibre network.
“One ISP has already confirmed they will offer services, with pricing starting at R499 per month for an uncapped 10Mbps connection,” said Botha.
Octotel is expected to announce a wide range of new offerings soon, including capped and uncapped Internet packages and voice services.
