Dimension Data Holdings has agreed to offload its wireless and fibre businesses – operated as Dimension Data Advanced Infrastructure (formerly known as Plessey South Africa) – to black-owned ICT firm Vulatel for an undisclosed sum, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The decision was taken after the company’s management determined that the two businesses were ‘not core to its value proposition.’ A spokesperson for the company said: ‘Our goal is growing and strengthening our existing core business, and accelerating into newer areas including data analytics, Internet of Things [IoT], hybrid IT, digital workplace and cyber security.’ Dimension Data Advanced Infrastructure operates long-haul, metro and access networks across South Africa, while also delivering microwave backbone, point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and Wi-Fi installations. The transaction is expected to close by 1 October.
