KT Corp of South Korea has been contracted by Botswana’s state-owned wholesale network operator BoFiNet to carry out a project to deploy fibre-optic infrastructure. According to a report from Pulse News, the Korean telecoms giant will be responsible for the design and installation of systems to expand optical telecommunication services for public organisations and private enterprises in Botswana’s capital, Gaborone. Existing copper infrastructure will be upgraded to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment, enabling download speeds of up to 100Mbps.
In November 2017 KT was chosen by Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) to co-operate on a network transformation project to improve internet user experience in the African country. The Korean firm has also previously worked with BoFiNet on the rollout of fibre networks in four cities and the deployment of a GiGa Wire solution to optimise services over copper infrastructure.
