At the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) World Conference in Durban, South Africa, Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful announced that her government has made significant progress in its rollout of rural mobile telephony sites, writes Modern Ghana. Owusu-Ekuful stated that almost 2,000 communities across Ghana do not have access to mobile signals and that the government along with mobile network operators (MNOs) aims to achieve 100% coverage by 2020. The minister also said that the government has significantly stepped up its rural mobile telephony rollout, with 100 sites constructed during 2017, activating mobile signals in more than 500 communities as a result. A further 80 sites have already been added this year, with a target to complete 200 sites by year-end 2018, said the minister.
