Airtel Uganda is claiming to have deployed the country’s first ‘nationwide’ 4G network. The firm says it has completed the upgrade of its entire network of 1,632 base station sites to 4G technology, twelve months after achieving the same milestone with its 3G rollout. Indian-owned Airtel launched LTE-based services in September 2017 and now covers 96% of the population with its 4G networks. It claims second place in Uganda’s mobile sector with a market share of around 38%, behind MTN which controls approximately 49% of all subscribers.
