Angola’s National Centre for Information Technology (NITC) has launched a project offering free public internet access in parks and squares in the capital city Luanda. The ‘Angola Online’ project was launched on 30 August 2014 with the switch-on of the first public access points at locations including Independence Square, Samba Park and education campuses, reports Agence Ecofin. According to the Ministry of Telecoms and IT (MTTI), each Wi-Fi internet zone guarantees 60 concurrent free internet connections (and up to two hours free access per person per day), forming part of a government plan to extend internet access to five million people by 2017.
