Kenyan telecoms operator Safaricom plans to extend the coverage of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to over 15,000 additional households across the country over the next two months. Some of the areas set for rollout include parts of Kisumu and Thika, Kizingo in Mombasa, and Kinoo, Komarock and Ruaka in Nairobi. The service currently reaches more than 300,000 homes, with over 107,000 customers connected across Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri and Thika. In a bid to drive uptake, Safaricom will offer a 50% discount in August and September for any new ‘Home Fibre’ customers.
‘Safaricom Home Fibre is a proposition that we began offering just over two years ago and this has been a new experience for most of our customers,’ commented CEO Michael Joseph, adding: ‘As a result, we have designed the 50% discount to appeal to those who would like to experiment and try out the service. We continue to record remarkable growth driven by demand for unlimited entertainment, working at home, home CCTV among other emerging customer needs.’
