South Africa’s telecoms regulator the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is considering cancelling four licences issued to Enverge Communications (awarded in 2011), Pluto Internet (2011), OpenVoice Service Providers (2009) and Global Technology Solutions (2009). The regulator said the decision to cancel all untraceable and/or inactive licences ‘follows a number of futile attempts by the office of the Complaints and Compliance Committee to make contact or determine the activities of these licensees following allegations of non-compliance with their terms and conditions.’ The four companies have been given until 31 July to inform the regulator that they are actively using the concessions.
