Angolan mobile operator Movicel has extended its network coverage to Ebo municipality, around 150km from the provincial capital of Cuanza Sul province, giving local inhabitants a choice of provider, as the area was previously served solely by rival cellco Unitel, Jornal de Angola reports. Potential further expansion in the area could involve Movicel installing repeater antennas to cover the remainder of the municipality, including Choa administrative area.
In related news, earlier in the month it was announced that a state-backed partnership initiative of Angola Telecom, Correios de Angola, Inamet, Movicel and Unitel had extended internet access to the 14 municipalities of Malanje province, with a government spokesperson adding that a free internet service will be available in certain strategic locations in the city of Malanje.
