Gunter Engling joins MTN Rwanda as the new CEO taking it on from Ebenezer Asante who has been CEO for the past two years.
Asante will go to Ghana operating as the new CEO MTN Ghana. “I am honoured to have been appointed to this role, and I look forward to working with the entire MTN Rwanda team and all stakeholders as we embark on this exciting journey,” Engling said.
Gunter joins MTN Group where he was Executive for Group Finance. He has been with MTN for almost 12 years, having joined MTN Group in November 2003 as Senior Manager for Group Management Accounting.
He subsequently moved to MTN Nigeria in 2007 as General Manager: Finance Planning. In August 2009, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer at MTN Ghana.
In August 2012, he assumed the role of Head: Passive Infrastructure Management in MTN Group, where he managed the transition of MTN Cameroon and MTN Ivory Coast to the Towerco model.
He has substantial financial and audit management experience in the Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment, and Technology industries. Before moving to MTN, he worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), gaining experience in Amsterdam, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Asante gave high praise to his MTN Rwanda team, for the rapid turnaround success achieved during his era to transform the business .
