Vodacom Mozambique has published five major objectives for the next five years which include a range of network and social projects. The firm is looking to have infrastructure covering 21 million people by the end of 2025, while it will also kick off its Digital Village scheme, which aims to improve connectivity and ICT access in rural areas. Part of this strategy will involve the previously-announced tie-up with Project Loon which will use balloons equipped with 4G technology to connect outlying regions. The third goal is to extend its M-Pesa mobile money service to all Mozambicans over the age of 16. Meanwhile, Vodacom will launch an improvement programme for 500 schools, while the firm has also committed to ensuring that 80% of appointments and promotions are internal, with 40% of employees to be women.
Vodacom Mozambique chairman Nuno Quelhas commented: ‘Our purpose is to connect and allow Mozambique to grow. This is the reason for the existence of this business and this brand; connect Mozambicans so they can build a better life. This is the spirit that will guide our brand and our actions, every day, as well as the decisions that we make and the products that we will develop in the near future because we believe that connected we have everything good.’
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Vodacom controlled around 49% of Mozambique’s mobile market at the end of June 2020.
